NYSE Euronext (NYX) today introduced the NYSE Century Club and the NYSE Century IndexSM. The NYSE Century Club recognizes companies that have realized success and contributed to economic and social progress for more than 100 years. In conjunction with the launch, CEOs from representative companies will participate in an inaugural forum on innovation and transformation at the NYSE today, which marks the 220th anniversary of the founding of the Exchange.
“The NYSE community includes hundreds of innovative and successful companies that for more than a century have undergone remarkable growth and transformation, created shareholder value and millions of jobs, and have shaped America and the world,” said Duncan L. Niederauer, CEO, NYSE Euronext. “The NYSE Century Club recognizes their achievements and contributions, and provides a forum for sharing experiences – creative thinking and discovery, risk-taking and renewal, and countless lessons learned – that will contribute to future success.”
The NYSE Century IndexSM is designed to measure the performance of U.S. domiciled companies with a 100 year history that have been publicly traded for at least 10 years and have a market capitalization of at least $1 billion. Using a set of criteria that assesses a company’s size and financial performance over a 10-year period, the index provides exposure to a diverse group of companies from nine major sectors.
To celebrate the introduction of the NYSE Century Club and the launch of the NYSE Century IndexSM, CEOs from NYSE-listed companies included in the index will ring today’s NYSE Closing bell.
