Marl\u00e8ne Hassine Konqui, Head of ETF Research and Kristo Durbaku, ETF Research Analyst<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Net new assets in the<strong> European ETF<\/strong> market slowed to \u20ac2.5bn in December \u2013 well down from the \u20ac4bn we saw in November.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Equities flows collapsed<\/strong> (-\u20ac1.4bn), with US equities recording their first negative month (-\u20ac1.7bn) after 19 consecutive months of positive flows and Europe equities still suffering outflows (-\u20ac1.5bn).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, <strong>emerging equities enjoyed their best month ever<\/strong> (+\u20ac2.8bn) and fixed income ETF inflows more than doubled, led by developed  and emerging market government bonds (\u20ac3.4bn and \u20ac1.4bn respectively).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Commodities<\/strong> continued their descent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Special focus: Emerging equity ETFs enjoyed their best  month ever<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In December 2018, emerging market ETFs benefited from low US interest rates, which brought record inflows into all emerging market economies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before this, emerging markets had suffered particularly from the intensifying trade war between the US and China.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The risk is likely to remain in the short term but shoulddecrease in the medium term as current  tight economic conditions are expected  to ease later in 2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This could lead to a <strong>new ongoing positive trend for EM ETF flows, especially given the historical correlation that
