yesterday announced that Noel Archard, currently a Managing Director within BlackRock, has been named the new Head of BlackRock Canada effective August 1st. Bill Chinery announced to colleagues in May his intentions to transition into retirement effective August 31st. Chinery will remain on to transition responsibilities accordingly to Archard and subsequently move into a consulting capacity to BlackRock for the remainder of the year.
“Bill Chinery has led BlackRock Canada through a period of transformation and change, building a strong team and a powerful suite of products and services. We want to thank Bill for his leadership and wish him well in retirement,” said Rob Fairbairn, Head of BlackRock’s global client group. “And, I look forward to continuing our relationship through his consulting services.”
Chinery oversaw a period of significant growth and expansion for BlackRock’s business in Canada, and played a major role in the integration of BlackRock and Barclays Global Investors in 2009. Today, BlackRock Canada has a strong presence as the third largest asset manager in the country with established institutional and retail client operations, including its industry leading iShares exchange-traded funds business.
Archard brings to the Canadian business more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services and asset management space. Having worked with BlackRock since 2006, his deep knowledge of BlackRock makes him uniquely positioned to bring the whole of BlackRock’s global capabilities to Canadian investors. The business and marketplace will be well-served by his industry expertise on regulatory and policy matters having served to support BlackRock’s congressional liaison efforts, most recently testifying before the United States Senate.
“Noel Archard brings a distinctive combination of institutional and retail expertise that, combined with his familiarity of the Canadian business, makes him the ideal candidate to build and grow our business to the next level,” continued Fairbairn. “Noel’s track record as an innovative leader capable of leveraging and developing new asset management techniques for clients will only serve to strengthen the value we offer all current and future clients.”
“BlackRock Canada’s commitment to investment performance and client service and ultimately to driving a better investment landscape for all Canadian investors provides an exciting opportunity for all of us,” said Archard. “I look forward to continuing to deepen our reputation in the marketplace and to drive change in the industry at a time when investors need it most.”
Mr. Archard has a BSc degree from Northwestern University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder (CFA®). He holds the Finra Series Licenses 7, 63, 65 and 24.
